GHS (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals)

Understanding this OSHA term is essential for workplace safety compliance and protecting your workforce.

menu_book Official Definition

An internationally agreed-upon system, created by the United Nations. It is designed to replace the various classification and labeling standards used in different countries by using consistent criteria on a global level for chemical classification, labels, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS). OSHA aligned its Hazard Communication Standard with GHS.

business_center Why This Matters to Your Business

Compliance with GHS (via OSHA's HCS) is mandatory. HR and Safety Managers must ensure that chemical labels and SDSs meet GHS specifications, and that employees are trained to understand the GHS pictograms and standardized SDS format. This promotes better understanding of chemical hazards globally and enhances worker safety.

QuickCare Solutions How QuickCare Supports You

QuickCare Solutions' Hazard Communication training incorporates GHS principles, ensuring your employees can interpret GHS-compliant labels and SDSs. Understanding GHS is integral to chemical safety, which is supported by our On-Site First-Aid Response in case of chemical incidents, and by our Respirator Fit Testing services if respiratory protection is needed for GHS-classified chemicals.
